ECE food court Kassel: furnished over 400 sqm.
Key facts at a glance:
- Project: Customized furnishing of the 400 sqm food court with nine adjoining restaurants including a terrace.
- Special features: Over 200 seats, a four-week building period, unification of an elegantly light design conception with robust, safe construction (A1-class guidelines).
- Approach: Close coordination with architects and tenants, in part full-scale mock-ups, bundled deliveries.
Custom work was required for close coordination of the installation of benches, counters, and glass partition walls with the material changes in the floor. Every angle was transferred precisely to the elements of the furnishings.
The architect of ECE had clearly defined the design. Now he wanted to see it realized exactly according to his vision – and entrusted the furnishing of the 400 sqm food service area to Schwitzke Project.
Over 200 seats were to be custom-manufactured: chairs, stools, and benches for the indoor and outdoor areas. The spatial concept also included tables, counters, and lighting – right through to glass parapet elements for the terrace. We engaged a total of 30 subcontractors and suppliers.
The furnishings are delicate in appearance yet extremely sturdy. Due to fire protection requirements, they are made of A1-class materials. The full-scale mock-ups thoroughly convinced the ECE management. The prototypes included, for example, a 2 m long bench with built-in waste disposal.
Delivered bundled, the furniture was in part fixed to the floor – on recessed mounting plates. Many of the components, in fact, were invisibly secured in order to heighten the effect of the design – just as Schwitzke Project worked largely out of sight of the restaurant operators and tenants. The architect was visibly pleased.
